The story

I’ve always loved the sound of a P style bass but haven’t owned one since my very first bass, a Peavey Fury. I think subconsciously I thought of them as simple “beginner” basses for a long time. I thought of myself as having graduated to more “serious” instruments. Looking back, I realize how silly that was. If it was good enough for legends like James Jamerson and Pino Palladino, it was definitely good enough for me.

After a few years of keeping my eye on Facebook marketplace for a good deal on a P-Bass to mod, I finally came across this one. I promptly bought a tort guard to make it look the way I wanted and then put some Ian Martin Allison signature Labella strings on it and fell in love with the sound and feel. While I fully intended to update the pickups, bridge, tuning pegs, and electronics, it sounds and feels so good that I’m going to leave it as is for now.
